Once upon a time I spent over twenty years in the classroom teaching German. For the last number of years, I have served as a Technology Integration Specialist supporting classroom teachers. Since leaving the classroom, I have discovered the digital instructional tool Kami for use in the classroom. Kami is more than a digital substitution for a worksheet; it is an annotation tool that additionally includes audio and video features. This is a tool I would have enjoyed incorporating in a World Language classroom; with one assignment I can have students demonstrate their aural and written understandings while asking them to respond in written and oral forms. I can provide students with feedback in the target language, too. In addition to demonstrating the standards in action, the tool provides all students with multiple means to access the content and demonstrate what they know increasing accessibilities paths from the start. For students, they have the opportunity to access the content in a way that works best for them and demonstrate their understandings in a way that really demonstrates those understandings. Plus, the tools can be fun to use.
I am a Technology Integration and LMS Specialist by title, but lifelong learner in practice. An Apple Teacher, Google Certified Educator and Microsoft Innovative Educator, my goal is to assist educators in investigating and exploring resources to embed in their instruction. I also hope to be a part of their journey toward an innovative and transformative practice that empowers learners and strengthens their own craftsmanship. I spends my free time with my family, my dogs and a good cup of coffee.
